Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs): Invisalign

How can we help you?

Dr. Edward Sloyer, Dr. Brian J. Davis, and the entire staff at Smile Designs of Long Island understand the importance of patient education. Good oral care is essential for one’s overall health. We know that the more knowledge our patients have about dental care, the better their oral health will likely be.

One of the goals of our practice is to make dental care accessible for everyone. And we want to do it as comfortably and painlessly as possible for our patients. To that end, we all work together to make sure our patients enjoy the best in dental care. That includes answering questions.

There are number of questions patients ask quite frequently, so we have included those below for your convenience. But if you have a question that is not included in the list, we invite you to contact us. Whether your question has to do with your oral care specifically or your oral health generally, we want to educate you. When you have knowledge, you can make more informed decisions about your treatment options. So never hesitate to ask us questions!

At Smile Designs of Long Island, we care about patient education—and we care about the health of you and your entire family!

The teeth are most susceptible to relapse (or move back) within the first year or two of treatment.  However, teeth are always susceptible to shifting.  We've seen this with patients of any age, with or without wisdom teeth, whether they have had orthodontic treatment in the past or not.  For whatever reason, our teeth seem to shift as we age.  For that reason, a retainer should be worn every night for as long as you want to maintain straight teeth.

On average, most Invisalign cases in this office take 1 year.  Minor corrections may take as few as 3-6 months.  With today's technology we can simulate the movements of your teeth before treatment is started.  This shows how the teeth are expected to move and how long it may take.

Invisalign treatment in this office usually costs less than braces.  So now Invisalign is easier, more comfortable, and more cost effective than braces.  As you can imagine, treatment will need to be customized to your needs, so every case is different.  We include everything you need to straighten your teeth and also include the retainers to keep them that way.  We believe that finances should not get in the way of creating a healthier smile.  We will work with you to ensure you are able to receive the treatment that you need.
